Residency Training Programs

University of California Davis

The centerpiece of our residency training programs is the personal interaction between residents and faculty in the clinical arena.  Our faculty are committed to this educational process and bring the necessary depth and diversity to teaching and supervision in all major theoretical paradigms within our specialty.  Abundant opportunities are provided for residents to maximize their professional development through research, reading, reflection, and scholarship.  Our residents seek out and work closely with motivated faculty members who share their academic and subspecialty interests.  Our educational goal is to train psychiatrists who are equipped to provide the highest quality of patient care both now and in the future.  Residents receive a firm grounding in psychodynamic principles applicable to their patients, as well as biological determinants of behavior and methods of treatment. For example, in 2012, our program ranked first among 64 psychiatry residency training programs whose PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents took the Columbia University Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Competency Test. UCLA Kern

The UCLA-Kern Psychiatry Residency programs provide fully accredited training with flexibility in the pursuit of individual resident and fellow interests, with an in-depth view of both the biologic and psychodynamic aspects of human behavior.  This will be accomplished by one-on-one supervisory experiences during both the 4-year general psychiatry and the 2-year fellowship training programs by full-time program faculty, faculty from other UCLA programs, and qualified clinicians from the metro-Bakersfield area, thus enabling residents and fellows to actualize their talents.
