This three-day conference for psychiatrists and other mental health professionals will integrate recent scientific data with current clinical practice regarding bullying in Children and Adolescents, Forensic Psychiatry, Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue, Patient Centered Medical Home, Upcoming Changes in Healthcare, and Sleep Disorders. We will also continue the tradition of having our resident vignette presentations.


At the conclusion of this course, participants will learn to:

Bullying in Children and Adolescents

?Participants will define and recognize the different characteristics of bullying in children and  adolescents

?Participants will describe risk factors for and different Bio-psychosocial strategies of preventing youth suicide

Fibromyalgia, Chronic Pain and Chronic Fatigue

?Understand current guidelines for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia, Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis and the application of this knowledge to psychiatric

?Understand current evidence based pain management for common rheumatologic conditions including fibromyalgia.

?Understand the role of psychiatric treatments into the comprehensive management of pain and drug-drug interaction.

The Building Blocks of High-Performing Primary Care

?Participants will understand the components required to transform primary care practices into high-performing organizations.

?Participants will enhance their patient care by being available to lead the creation of teams that share the care with clinicians in order to
    improve prompt access to care for patients.


Upcoming Changes in Health Care
?Participants will describe the upcoming changes in health care and how it will impact psychiatric care in clinical practice

?Participants will construct ways to deliver efficient mental health care given these changes

Treating Patients in Forensic Settings

?Participants will recognize challenges unique to treating psychiatric patients in Forensic settings

?Participants will compare the unique characteristics of psychiatric care in this special population to other systems of care.

Sleep Disorders

?Participants will identify sleep problems common in mental illness

?Participants will implement various techniques in the evaluation and management of sleep disorders in clinical practice

Resident Case Conference

?To understand typical and atypical presentations of some of the psychiatric illnesses in different clinical settings (outpatient and inpatient) in a training

?To understand and formulate a comprehensive treatment plan on Bio-Psychosocial model
